Band wurde aufgeloest und Manu Chao gruendete Radio Memba.
Radio Memba als Combo zu bezeichnen waere nicht korrekt, ziehen hier
Freunde, Kuenstler und Musiker mehr als Kollektiv oder Projekt gemeinsam an
einem Strang.
Die Singleauskopplung Bongo Bong (der Koenig der Bongo) verschaffte Manu
Chao entgueltig internationalen Durchbruch und Aufsehen in der
europaeischen Musikbranche.
Da es dem Kuenstler jedoch nicht um Ruhm und Ansehen geht, tritt er mit
Radio Memba teilweise unter anderen Namen auf, um Medienrummel zu
vermeiden.
Sein zweites Solo Album Próxima Estación erschien 2001. Hier zeigte sich
erstmalig, wie multikulturell Manu Chao mittlerweile geworden ist. Auf dem
Album vereinen sich 6 Sprachen, mehrfach ein Lied in zwei Sprachen. Seinen
bekannten Stil aus Reggae und suedamerikanischen sowie karbischen Rhythmus
erweiterte Manu Chao in diesem Album um Flamenco, Blues und Jazz.
